I'm interested in job prospects. I lived in Japan for 10 years so it seems like it might be interesting. There are quite a few Japanese companies in my area.

there is a lot of info on the web, but this site has some pretty extensive info, including the basics.

basically, the field involves maximizing the efficiency of getting products from the mfg to the consumer.
