  1. Some humans find food by moving around (hunting/gathering), some cultivate their food, but most go to a store to buy it.  Even though the people are moving to get to the store, in comparison to how far the food traveled, they hardly budged.  We ship the food all over the world to bring it to people.

Transportation of food is one of our primary uses of fuel.  So, there is extensive pollution and release of carbon dioxide as the result of bringing food to people.

Another problem is that because we ship and truck food everywhere, it ends up being more cost effective to have massive farms and feedlots that create huge amounts of animal waste and depleted agricultural lands.

To fix them we should all be trying to eat as many local foods as possible.  If you live in north america, consider which fruits are produced in your area and eat primarily those instead of importing bananas and pineapples.  Also, grow some of your own food.  Creating a lot of smaller farm operations all over the place will save on the pollution and greenhouse gases over our current system of centralized, industrial agriculture.
