"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"

John Adams

[1735-1826] 2d President of the United States

I think a resolution should be passed to have any President or elected official for that matter state they will uphold the constitution of the United States of America and MUST state this from the Treaty of Tripoli.

  1. and yet the system is biblically based.  Oh an the original law was "state from religion" not "religion from state".  Amazing how in a few short years can foundational documents be translated so as to not be as confrontational.

It would damage our sense of self in the 21 century.

    so sad.  so So sad.

  2. The problem is that the phrase:   The separation of Church and State"

is not found anywhere in the US Constitution.

The Treaty of Tripoli is the only document of its kind to state that the US is not a Christian nation.  This statement was inserted into this treaty because Tripoli was Muslim country attacking the USA because we ARE a Christian nation.

Hundreds of other official US documents say this nation WAS founded as a Christian nation.

Four of the Founding Fathers, John Adams, Tom Jefferson, Ben Franklin and James Madison were Deists.  The rest of the founding fathers were Christians.

In fact over half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Pastors.

  3. They should say instead: "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded nor based on any religion."

  4. What about the Senators or Representatives? Shouldn't they have to do that too? I think you're giving the President credit for more power than he has.

  5. The country wasn't founded on any religion, but was founded with those religious values in mind. Every meeting of representatives who were setting up the constitution began with prayer.

That being said, I believe the separation of church and state is important, the state should never have an established religion, they should not advocate or discriminate any religion. But those religious values are important. It's vital that our nation maintains that sense of morality.
