I always hear people on here saying they support the troops & for the most part I beleive them. Many of them talk alot about supporting them but it ends there. Some hang magnets on their car saying they do. Some actually put action to their words and send care packages.

Some of the liberals on here say they support the troops but not the war. Some of those I beleive some I think they dont.

I think some don't know how they can put action to the words "I Support our troops"

If you support the troops will you be willing to do something to show it? I have to travel to 4 different VA hospitals in 3 different states for treatment of my wounds becuase the specialist I need are only at those hospitals. When I go there they have volunteers who help out. The thing I notice is that the volunteers are older Vets and old women who are in their 80's & up. They do stuff like pass out coffee to vets waiting for appointments, they push vets in wheelchairs to their clinic. Some just sit

  1. I work for the VA, and you are right, but I think the reason you see mostly older volunteers is because many younger people either don't know about VA hospitals having volunteer programs or simply are working during the time of your visits.  One thing you should also note, most employees at VA's are vets themselves.

  2. I support our troops.

  3. I didn't realize we could volunteer in that way. THanks for posting that. I have a friend who is a vet and whose only care is through the V.A.  I will talk to her about it and see what I can arrange. I live in a military town and it would be awesome to help out that way... especially since my friend is there so often (cancer).  'Course, I ain't no spring chicken, myself...

  4. I dont support the war, but i do support our soldiers. I think they are very brave! But i do agree, that so many people dont do enough to support. I think it's because younger people are so caught up in themselves, and older people feel for others. I do feel bad too because i dont do as much as i could!

  5. While I was in college I set up a Community Service Program in which members of my Fraternity would visit with the Vets at the local VA hospital.  I know the program stayed in place for a number of years after I graduated and that it was one of the more enjoyed activities.  (I'll have to stop by the old house and see if they are still going and if not try and get it going again.)  Perhaps you should target the college community and see if the Greek system could fill in the need for younger volunteers (they are generally always looking for CS activities within the community).  I know it was a great experience for me and the only reason I found out about it was from visiting my grandfather (a WWII Vet) while he was being treated there.  Once my children get into there teen years it is definitely a volunteer activity I would like to take back up and get them involved with as well.

  6. I dont support the war, and i h**l dont support the troops.

Going killing women, men, children! wtf? did they hit thier heads on the wall or something?? d**n!

Bush is an A$S for causing a war without reason!

And troops are F*ckers for killing people for no reason! what they aint got a head to think for themselves?

they say theyre 'protecting' America.. from wat? Iraqi's? they aint got enough money to even have a modernized country, they aint gonna go bomb u with the money they dont have!!

so dont tell me its protecting! cuz they didnt do sh*t!

    man u guys r stupid!

  7. I'm a retired MSgt of Marines and I'm proud of 20 years of sacrifice so "Americans", like Saro0nah, have the freedom to say and do what they want.  Saro0nah, why don't you, Cindy Sheehan, and Jane Fonda go burn an American flag somewhere??

God Bless America and her wonderful young men and women serving in the Armed Forces!!  "We'd rather fight them over there, than fight them here!!"

  8. I would LOVE to visit VA hospitals, and am hoping to have an opportunity to do so this year (I did get to visit WRAMC in May of 07- what an experience that was!).  Anyway - there are many ways to support our heroes.  Check out these links for other ways to really get involved... I'm involved in all of them, and can vouch for the fact that they are all awesome organizations:  www.SoldiersAngels.org, www.AnySoldier.com, www.Adoptaplatoon.org, www.WebofSupport.com, www.OperationQuietComfort.com, www.PatriotGuard.org, and my own website (I'm not an organization - just an individual trying to help!): crazynightinga.blogspot.com.

"Supporting our troops" means more than slapping a magnet on a car... tho the magnets are cool, hehe... the troops in the desert and elsewhere cannot see the magnets.  What the CAN see are letters and care packages that we back home send to them.  A simple card or letter means SO much more than we could ever realize.  A simple, easy thing, to write a letter... yet so very meaningful to our troops.

  9. About the year 2000 ( two years after I retired), I learned that I have a brain tumor, that many neurosurgeons want to operate on, but they admit that 1. they can not remove all of that tumor, 2. the odds of my surviving is about 2 %, 3. The tumor once removed will return, 4. there are no USA Approved medications that will work on it, nor will radiation or chemo work.

I donated my body to the V.A. Medical System (@ Dallas, Texas at that time, now @ Houston), as a living medical laboratory, and I moved to Mexico, where I buy herbs to take,( herbs not available here in the USA), moved & retired into an exceptionally tranquile town in the Mexican Sierra Madre Mountains, changed my diet, take the herbs, removed myself from all stressfull subjects, and I have STOPPED the damned thing from growing for over 6 years. I have a retirement home there, and another residence north of Houston. I travel back and forth and pay my own expences.

I have 'vounteered' this activity in hopes that some way, some day, somehow, I can provide help and answers for other Vets.  During my service time, 3 1/2 years active, in the mid to late 1950's (French Indo-China, and the short Lebanees uprising in Aug. '58), I was 'Smiled Upon By The Big Boss Above', and received only minor injuries.

I do gather up magazines and take to the hospital/s and distribute them around for everyone to read.

To you and other vets who must travel to obtain medical services, " MAY THE BIG BOSS ABOVE, SMILE UPON YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES".

THANK YOU, AND THE OTHERS, FOR YOUR SERVICES AND SARIFACES.

  10. I do not support the war. The soldiers are brave, but come on - use your own head? Would you risk your life for oil.

War is nothing more than a bloodshed game. Presidents (excluding some like Mr. Lincoln) don't care about the troops. They'll play golf the next day without a care in the world.

  11. Actually, in my community, my wife and I organized a book drive, and we collected somewhere in the area of 5000 books and 200 books on tape that we brought to the local veteran's hospital.

This is the third year we've done it.

This is not even a case of supporting the troops - it goes beyond that. The men in these hospitals (and a few women as well) went through h**l and back to fight for our freedom. All of the war movies do not even begin to touch on what these people went through.

  12. I deal with this situation because my son is a veteran (Iraq) when we visit the hospital I see all ages there helping, we have many who volunteer including me.  Please get involved with helping the veterans whenever possible.
