  1. Don't forget the Thais or the Japanese or the Swedes or the Spanish or.....You get the picture

And I agree. They all have far too many rules and expectations to live by.

  2. Among the lesser nobles, thanks.  Wouldn't want to be too visible, tlhey tended to fall into disfavor too often, and get arrested for silly things.

Definitely wouldn't want to be the monarch.  WAY too much responsibility and danger.  I'll never forget the look on Jane Grey's face when she realized they were putting the crown on her head in the movie "The nine day queen".  She knew she didn't have long to live.

Same with the number one advisor.  Anyone with that much visibility was in constant danger as well.

Definitely NOT a peasant, they lived short and difficult lives.

Yup, lesser noble would be best.  Enough money and power to live well, not so much noteriety to make their lives miserable.

  3. We do still live in an age where kings and queens rule the lands. Ever heard of Queen Elizabeth? Or Queen Beatrix? There are dozens of regal rulers still among us.

Would I rather be the monarch or the number one advisor?

Neither, actually. Both are constricted by endless rules of protocol and social mores.
