Even though the students think they know it all, you want to convince them that THEY DON'T know it all and it is very important for them to learn as much as they can about s*x. What arguments would you use to convince them of the IMPORTANCE OF BEING EDUCATED about human sexuality?

  1. ...They do pretty much know it all.

At least most of them do.

  2. Give as many statistics on STDs and deaths arising from them as possible, and say it in a way so that you scare them outa their pants.

  3. If you wanted to take a totally challenging position...

Go for why they should abstain till they get married.

Lets see, in my brief nursing career I have seen a few dozen who have gotten aids and several actually hospitalized with other STD's.

Then there are the unwanted babies. Remember, even if only one of the parents doesn't want them, they are unwanted.

And why would you want to start your life having a family. Learn and enjoy life first, then have a family.

Then there are the babies who are no longer cute babies and now the parent, usually the girl has to fact the reality of the the next 18 years are tied up. No problem, the grandparents can rear the kid.

The challenge is how to present this in such a way that you would not lose attention.

Maybe use some cognitive dissonance. Start off saying how wonderful it is. Natural human thing, etc, etc. Tell about how beautiful experience...etc, etc. Then drop some little grenade. Say very matter of fact a story about AID's.

This is not a problem any more because the life expectancy is so much longer with Aids as it used to be. If you take your cocktail of pills every day on schedule you can live a normal life.

Then condescendingly blow it off. Tell how protection will make it safe for you. Then add, well almost make it safe. There is a percentage that fail. No problem, the odds are (figure how big the school census is and base it on this number) that you won't get Aids.

Assuming there are 300 present. Condoms are 99% safe. This means that for one of 100 they are not. So three will be potentially exposed. Now multiply this by, lets say several times in this year alone. That means only 21 of your classmates will potentially be exposed. Lets say only half actually get it. That is not bad odds. It is better than Vegas.

Potentially only 10 of you will get Aids in your life time.  Actually this is only 10 of those who are not monogamous. If your a prude, you will not have to worry about the heartache. You will not have to worry about the  stigma.

Then to the ones that will, what ever the percentage is, say something like, well, sorry but xyz of you will get AID's. Then revert back to how wonderful a human experience it is. I think you get the picture.

    Hope this helps.

It will be really hard to do it in such a way as to keep their attention and not lose the audience. But if you pull it off, it will be glorious.

I cannot stress enough that this could be a major crash and burn for you if you cannot pull it off.

You need to sound like your promoting the liberal view regarding it and be somewhat condescending to the potential problems.

The few who are on the fence will love you.

Help them out. If someone comes up to you and says, "What, are you afraid?" look them straight in the eye and say, "yea, and you should be to. To conclude, say the odds are in your favor that you will not get an STD or AIDs. Enjoy life, live it to the full. For the (however many) who's life is ruined, and statistically, your life will be ruined, you have a choice. You can play Russian Roulette with your life.

In the end you and only you will have to answer the question as to whether it was worth it or not.

One 24 year old AID's patient of mine says, "You know, it was a moment of pleasure that cost me the rest of my life to live in pain." He started his life of sexual freedom at 17. He does not know how many he infected but assumes it was several.

    So much for freedom.

    Best wishes,

  4. Most teenagers know all there is to it about s*x.

They dont believe in myths and such, their already taught that those myths are wrong in health class.

Out of an entire student audience (juniors & seniors), Id say one or two would still believe false s*x myths.

None of them would argue against the education of s*x, so I have no idea why your asking that. Most are mature and understand its importance.

    EDIT:

I agree with the other guy's answer. In most cases, its parents and adults who spread myths about s*x(although i think hes talking more about than just that). I had a friends mom back in high school who thought doubling up was the safest method of using a condom, and another who said that you couldnt get STI's or STD's from oral s*x.

I remind you, this was less than 2 years ago.

If anything, the younger generation likes to be aware of anything to protect themselves from danger.

Your question is biased, as if you think all young people are moronic and dont know anything at all.

  5. This argument would be wasted on the students. Unless they have led a very repressed life ( possible with some ), they generally would welcome any and  all TRUTHFUL information they could get.

The speech needs to be given to the moronic PARENTS, EDUCATORS, and POLITICIANS, who run the educational system.

I'm sorry, this subject is one of my pet peeves. I would love to talk to you more about it. You can e-mail me.
