you didn't do much, always got along with everyone but didn't talk much, and someone nominated you to lead the club next year? would you take it as a compliment, or as a trap for an unwanted responsibility?

  1. The popular vote - happens all the time. If you feel you are up to it, take the nomination. But the way you are telling, you're rather be lead than be the leader. Politely decline and don't think too much about it.

  2. Its a little bit of both. But the question is, do you want the responsibility or not? Some people love to take control, while others prefer to be a passenger and let some one else do the driving....

  3. Ok,you're the wallflower and suddenly you're thrust out into the spotlight......... it smells like  you're being made a scapegoat for something.

  4. I would think they had no one else that wanted the position and were desperate....of course they wouldn't have nominated you to do it if they didn't think you'd be good even if they were desperate.

  5. That's an excellent question.

It is a compliment, but as for the responsibility aspect, that depends. Do you have a great deal of knowledge about the club? Have you offered up good suggestions when you did speak? Do you volunteer for most projects? Have you been a member for a good while? If so, then take it as a compliment and decide if you want the responsibility.

On the other hand, if you have been a member a short time, have not participated in many activities, have not made many suggestions or taken on minor responsibilities, then it may be a case of being given a task that no one else wants.

If you think it's appropriate, ask some "insiders" what the impetus was to nominate you for the job, then decide if you want to accept the nomination.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

  6. I would take it as a compliment. You always have the right to decline. If you feel uncomfortable, say no, and maybe the year after that.
