  1. Look at it this way your paid minimum wage of 5.70 an hour yet the cost of living goes up but your pay does not then johnny foreigner comes along and under cuts you by 20-30% to get the job but they are also claiming full benefits as well so you need to see both ends of the spectrum.

  2. You could be right there.

  3. exactly, if you wanted the job so badly you would have got out of their beds before 9am and gone out and done a hard days graft and not sit in front of "Jeremy Kyle" & "Trisha"

  4. Precisely.

  5. "whinging"  what is that word?  never heard it before, is that a UK thing?

    edit

thanks for the clarification, i didn't know

    so with that said

whining or whinging never ever helps anyone

  6. Hey I agree hun - but just remember when you do work they make sure every penny is taken back from you in some way....

I am a single parent with one child - I claim family tax credits.

I pay full rent, coucil tax reduced by 25%, not entitled to school meals, travel or uniform grant. I have recently been in formed the kids no longer get milk now I have to pay for that too.

So yeah go out and work - but if the job isn't paying enough

( bear in mind some single parents may not have the skills for higher paid jobs or child care in place for the kids as this costs a mint too for after school clubs!)

If my rent goes up any more along with all the other bills I may have to consider going on benefits - something I have never done before in my life, and not something I want to do - I may have no choice

  7. I totally agree, and also find it absurd that those who whinge and whine the most are those who have never bothered to look for a job let alone do a hard days work in their lives!!

  8. I think that the problem is that al lot of trades people (carpenters, gas fitters etc) have been under-cut by Polish folk!  The polish get the jobs - the Brits go bust!

"why don't the Brits lower their prices" I hear you say....

How would you feel if you had 30% less in your pay at the end of the month?

Walk a mile in someone elses shoes!

  9. Certainly it can happen when the business fires legal workers to pay less to illegals.

  10. Of couse they can take our jobs ......

Call centres are moved to india etc where wages are much lower - immigrants are taking our jobs , estimated 1,000,000 poles in uk just look around where you live.

  11. Absolutely, these people moan on and on and on but the truth is they want to sit on their backsides breeding the next generation of scroungers whilst the rest of us work and pay taxes. Remember at least the Polish pay taxes (directly and indirectly) here which is more than I can say about benefit scum.

  12. Personally I welcome it, nothing wrong with a little healthy competition, most "tradesmen" have been spoilt by getting away with ripping people off for too long, most tradesmen have only gone to some quicky college course for a couple of weeks anyway and the rest is self taught, yet they are quite happy to charge engineering degree prices.  If I can get a certified journeyman spark from Poland to wire my house for 30% less than "Bobs ( I electricuted myself so I'm an electrician) fly by night electrical services.  I'll go with the Pole thanks.  Time for the likes of "Bob" to pull their heads out of their a.ss and do a solid days work at a realistic price, then maybe they would get a little more work.

  13. Maybe if Brits didn't charge the earth then we would not need immigrants. There are so many plumbers, builders etc who earn loads more then nurses, teachers, office workers etc. And they want our sympathy. Most would prefer to employ British people but cannot afford it. Try walking in the shoes of someone struggling on £20,000 a year, expected to pay £100 an hour for a plumber.

  14. 'our' people by law have to be paid at least minimum wage

the 'other' people are happy to accept a job paying half the minimum wage and not complain about it because they know it's 10 times more than what they would be getting back at home

Obviously that doesn't go for everyone but it's pretty common

    especially in the building trade

    cheap labour

  15. Yeah, I just love seeing those bumper stickers slapped on the back of either expensive Lincolns or 20 year old Dodges. These people obviously have a deep understanding of the economy. They're either well off and really aren't affected, or never got a real education and therefore are getting screwed. Either way, that's not me, so what do I care?

So I can't make a good living off of a high school diploma anymore, so what? I'll go to college and problem solved, I don't have to worry about an immigrant stealing my job unless they are truly more qualified, in which case they deserve it.

  16. There was something in the paper a while ago about a firm taking on some Polish guys and the Brits trained them up. When they were fully trained, they sacked the Brits cos the Polish guys were cheaper!!

However, there are lots of jobs out there. Sometimes you have to do a  job you don't necessarily like if it earns you money. Plenty of jobs out there if people really wanted to work :o)

  17. I agree with EMA, lets be seeing fair wages for jobs well done.  People who work should be paid well enough not to need to start claiming benefits.

I agree there are some who don't want to work and are happy to live on benefits.  But if employers paid better wages then more of the jobs that are presently being done by incomers would not be vacant.   The people who live here and have families to support and mortgages to pay just can't afford to work for a low wage.

No one wants to work for peanuts, I know I wouldn't, especially if I had to start going cap in hand for benefits to make up the shortfall in my income.
