Suresh Raina, the promising young middle-order batsman for India, feels he is built for Test cricket. Raina spoke about various issues in an exclusive interview with ESPNCricinfo after he was dropped from the squad for the upcoming India-http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 Test series at home.
The star batsman has been playing exceptionally well for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in Colombo 2010. Scoring a century in his debut match secured him a regular position in the playing XI.
The player’s recent knock against the Kiwis, in the second Test, was important for his side and exclusion from the Test squad came as a surprise to him. When asked how it made him feel, Raina said, "I don't know. Maybe I was thinking that I was going to be selected but that's a part of the game. Sometimes you do well and sometimes you don't."
Raina has mostly been tagged as a specialist One Day and T20 player but feels he can prove a lot in the 5-day format as well. He claimed to be working on his flaws against spin bowling in the longer version of the game.
In a question raised over his technique to deal with the short ball, the player replied, "People talk about the short ball. I am leaving the ball well, I am playing it well. If I couldn't play the short ball, well, then I wouldn't have scored in the West Indies and also in England. People talk about all Indian players not playing the short ball well. We are working on it. We are getting better. I am feeling good, my body weight is balanced and mentally I am approaching the ball well."
The young talent feels he can rectify his flaws in the domestic arena and come out strong, appreciating the confidence shown in him by the chief national selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sandeep-Madhusudan-Patil-c88494.
