India’s captain for the limited overs portion of the series against West Indies, Suresh Raina, has said that the selection for the Caribbean tour has been done on merit.
The world champions are not at full-strength in the tour of West Indies as a number of senior players opted to rest after a hectic schedule and some were ruled out because of injuries.
There are a number of budding players in the limited overs squad who have little experience of international cricket.
The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Manoj Tiwary, Wriddhiman Saha and Subramaniam Badrinath have not played much of a cricket at the highest level of the game.
Raina feels that it is a huge task for him to work with the younger players in the series against West Indies.
However, he is comfortable because all the youngsters are seasoned professionals and they have been doing exceedingly well in the domestic cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
He said, "It (being captain) is a great challenge to me and I'm really looking forward to that. We have good players who want to do well in this series. They have done well in first-class cricket and the IPL or in the World Cup team".
Raina himself has not been a permanent member of India’s playing 11 in One Day Internationals in recent past, so he will have to look after his own performances as well as some of the youngsters.
This tour is surely going to be a huge test of the left hander’s abilities as a high profile cricketer.
He understands that India will be without its senior players in the Caribbean and the youngsters will have to be on their toes to beat the home team which is always a tough opponent on its home soil.
"We have http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 team here and they are focused on doing well for India and I am excited to see how they perform over the next few weeks", he added.
The tour is going to officially start tomorrow with a T20 match at Port of Spain which will follow the ODI series. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and see what kind of a show both teams can come up with in this series.
