Surf Fishing shock leader?

I am not familair with a shock leader for surf fishing. Where do you attach it?

The shock leader is attached to your main line on the tag end. The tag end is the end you cast into the water. I like to use 10 pounds of test per ounce of bait + weight I will be casting. So if I am using a 3 ounce weight and a 2 ounce piece of bait I use a 50 pound test shock leader. The shock leader needs to be long enough to run the entire length of your pole and go around your spool 5-10 times. 10 if your fishing and area where your line can get frayed bad.
