Surf magazine?

Question

MY WHOLE LIFE I HAVE BEEN INTRESTED IN SURFING

I MOVED TO CHICAGO FROM HAWAII WHEN I WAS 4,

SO I NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO LEARN HOW TO SURF

NOW, I THINK THAT BEING A SPONSERED SURFER

WOULD BE THE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD,

BUT IM PRETTY SURE THAT ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN,

BECAUSE I HAVE A FEELING ITS KIND OF ALONG THE

SAME LINES OF SAYING

"I WANT TO BE A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER",

SOMETHING VERY FEW PEOPLE GET THE CHANCE TO DO ...

SO I THINK IT WOULD BE THE NEXT BEST THING TO

EITHER PROFESSIONALLY SHOOT PICTURES OF SURFERS

OR TO WORK FOR A MAJOR SURF MAGAZINE,

BUT AS FAR AS THE MAGAZINE PART,

HOW EXACTLY DO I GO ABOUT LOOKING INTO THAT ?

ANY ADVICE IS REALLY APPRECIATED =)

I got my first sponsor when I was 12

but yahh its fun, but it isn't as easy as ppl think

its a lot of work trying to impress ur sponsors

im 15 now

and it seems like my whole life is contests

I got my first sponsor by making a sponsor me video, like colton a said

pay someone or have ur family shoot ur surfing

go in a couple contests

maybe nssa and get ur namee out there

then soon enough you'll have someone ask you if you're interested in a sponsorship

its really a neat experience

just practice ur a s s off

and just have fun!

that's all the advice I really think someone could give a person

well, id like to retire and be a millionaire, but...... have you ever shot pics in the ocean ? if not, i dont think a major surf mag will hire you, if you have, and have  a decent portfolio contact a mag and see what they have to offer.

Go to surfline.com and then find the WhoKnows? section.  There are several good commentaries and becoming a surf photographer.  Basically just get out there and shoot. I helps to have some knowledge of the sport because it will allow you anticipate your shots better and of course some knowledge of photography so you know how your equipment works and how to set it for the lighting, conditions, etc.

I shoot for fun using a fairly basic non-SLR digital camera and have been able to turn out some pretty good stuff.

i want to be a sponcerd surfer witch i probibly could if i had a video camera to make a sponcer me video. but if i dont make it in the surfing deal. i still would want to be apart of surfing. so my story is like yours but i live in californa.
