I have been thinking about getting my hips pierced recently and I was wondering how pain full it was, the risks, how to keep it from migrating, and piercing after care.

Is it more painful then a industrial? Or a navel piercing? I'm just very curious and lots and any info will help!!

  1. i have never done anything like this. i would ask a piercer, or try to sit in the lobby while one is being done and hear how painful it is for yourself.

  2. My best advice to you would be to speak with a reputable piercer on that subject.

Some parlours may not pierce you in this region because it runs a higher risk of getting irritated by clothing, caught on things and ripped out. The experience of the piercer will determine where on your hips he or she would be willing to pierce you and it all depends on what kind of jewellery you wish you wear in it too.

I would suggest finding a tattoo/piercing shop in your area that specializes in Body modifications as those places usually have someone there that is experienced in less common piercings.

As far as pain goes its somewhat like getting a navel piercing, but it all depends on your personal pain threshold. Depending on how much fat you have in that area it can feel like a sharp pressure to a burning sting.

Migrating isn't usually a huge problem in this area since the balls are pretty big and they should be piercing you with a 14 gauge needle to minimize the chance of it migrating in or out of your skin.

As far as aftercare its basically the same as a navel piercing, as it comes in contact with the same elements as your navel. I would just keep an eye out for infection but not anything out of the ordinary.

    Hope this helps
