Surface to favour Basseterre in 32Red Handicap at Kempton
Albaqaa has slipped to a fair mark, and it is very hard to rule him out. Similarly, Kiz Kulesi and Volcanic Wind are open improvement, looking very good to make an impact. Despite the fact all three aforementioned horses have significant roles to play, the preference should be given to Basseterre, who is showing continuous improvement these days.
The 3-year-old has been producing good results since the start of his career. The Charles Hills-trained made his debut on a winning note in January, and has achieved three victories so far. The latest of his triumphs hit the headlines at the end of September.
In the Arkle Finance Handicap at Newmarket, he performed outstandingly in the hands of Kieren Fallon. With the help of a strong finish, the 4-1 chance seized the first place by a neck’s distance. The conditions are massively in his favour, and he can easily be preferred in a good race for a midweek evening.
A total of 14 runners have entered the 1-mile meeting. This is a class 3 meeting, and a cash prize of £6,412 is reserved for the successful runner. The officials are due to start the proceedings at 19:10 GMT.
Volcanic Wind is also in very good shape. Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge missed the crown only by half a length on his debut at Thirsk in September. The Godolphin-owned built on that quite nicely, and got off the mark here last time. It was an impeccable effort by the young fellow.
He remained ahead all the way through, and eventually captured the big prize with ease. Another Godolphin-owned, Kiz Kulesi, is aiming high following a terrific win at Newmarket in August. There is no doubt over his racing skills, but an inconsistent run will prevent the punters from staking too much money on him.
Albaqaa, on the other hand, is h**l-bent to bounce back. There are surely a few things going for him, but it is hard to trust him blindly, especially after a few terrible defeats lately. The P. J. O'Gorman-trained is recommended to the only adventurous punter. The best move is to stick only with Basseterre. Good luck to all the horses.
