  1. I'm skinny (75kg/?lbs) but cut from surfing. My back is strong  from many years of surfing. I started stretching before getting in the water many years ago. You don't have to and I don't before every surf, but I find if I don't stretch (especially when wearing a steamer) my shoulders feel like they are working a lot harder than they should when wearing a wetty. You do need flexibility when you surf and stretching, as tedious as it may be will help in the long run.

  2. Stretch a little before you surf and more when you are not surfing. Yoga is a great way to get your stretching in. There are reasons surfers do yoga. It keeps them loose, works on their balance and gives them a little strength in the arms, core and legs. Plus you can do it anywhere. So start now because 10 years from now your body will only be more stiff.

  3. My back looks great, it holds up a fat gut 24/7. I used to be a runner, and I never got into stretching for that either. maybe I would have lots fewer aches and pains if I did stretch (at 55, some days EVERYTHING hurts).

  4. I appreciate this ?, because after having surfed from a grommet till now, my body will forever be surferesque.
