  1. Depends on how you want to ride it.  If you want something with more 'glide' and a noserider - stick with the heaver, wider, single fin longboards (concave in the nose and tail helps).  If you want to surf more from the tail, consider slightly narrower, thinner, 2+1 finned longboards.  Definitely get one that has the 3 fin boxes so you can switch from single to 2+1 as you wish.

If you're in the OC area, I'd loop up Stewart.  If  you're LA county, I'd recommend Walden.

Don't be afraid to try EPS construction longboards if you want more of a performance rider - they ride great.

  2. The reality with long boards is that they are big enough that anybody can ride them.  So basically a nine foot board would work for anybody up to probably 250 pounds, maybe more.

What you need to look at is the shape and how that fits with your surfing style (or what you envision your style will be).  Do you plan on a more progressive modern style or are you more old school?  This all makes a difference with long boards in what the shape and fin setup is.

If you're not sure I'd go with something that has some nose concave, soft rails and a 2 + 1 fin setup so you can pull the side bites out if you decide to rock it old school.

  3. If you got your mind set on that maker,  get one that will

"fit" you. How tall are you,  and what's your weight?

Those two measurements will determine what size board

will "fit" you. Just don't get a board,  to get a board,  or just

because of it's shape or looks. If that's the case,  get a custom one made that will suite you.
