Surfing: Putting a pad on a board?

Alright, I just bought a new komunity pad for my my board, problem is , I don't have a wax comb or wax remover, any suggestions for safely removing wax and any other tips for putting the pad on? Thanks

yeah hot water works. putting a stomp pad on is pretty straightforward. you shouldn't have any problems.

Don't put hot water on your polyester/polyurethane foam surfboard. It can cause delamination and contraction of the foam, leaving your board worth a lot less than it was before you started. This is especially true of hot water boiled in the kettle then poured straight on. John F's credit card idea is a good one, use it after half an hour of sun on board, should be softened up nicely. Then use mineral turps on a rag (soak it) and wash/ rub remaining wax off. One last important step. Once it looks clean, go over it again with a wet mineral turps rag, then immediately give it a hard rub with a dry rag. This ensures the wax residue is all gone. Position the pad just above the board then when your happy with the placement, start from the tail end and press it down to the nose. This stops air getting trapped amongst the glue. Then work from the middle of the pad out to the edges, pressing down firmly. Leave it overnight for the glue to cure a bit. Then go surf!!

Sit the board out in the SUN. Let the old wax soften up (and maybe even melt off). Use an old credit card to scrape off the excess. Then clean it off with hot water. Use some window cleaner to finish off the tail area before you put your pad down.  Then use a good base coat wax on the rest of the board. wax it it up, and go surfing.

you could buy a comb; they're really cheap. if you buy a pair of boardshorts you usually get one free. at least i do when i buy new o'neill shorts.

if you want to you could use a little acetone to remove the wax and clean the surface before putting on the stomp pad.

Anyway, Don't put hot water on it it will make the board delamentate faster. just stick the board in the sun for a couple of minutes and then use a towel to wipe the wax off. Make sure all the wax is off or your pad won't stick!
