Question:

Surfing any one?

Howdy again, I went surfing the other day and I didn't have leg rope so it made surfing really tirering. I was just basically wondering how can I get up faster, I already bend my back leg so it forms a triangle, but I need to get up faster. Any basic surfing tips you can lend to a rookie?

  1. Since I can remember I've surfed and have always done this:

Paddle with alternate hands til you are at the top of the wave,

use both hands to give one last push down the wave,

Then pop up as you drop into the wave, leaning in the direction you will ride the wave (backhand or forehand)

You don't need to arch your back, just literally get up in one pop, and lean down the face of the wave, making sure you don't nosedive.

rather than falling off at the end of your ride, just turn up the side of the wave to hop off and grab your board so that you don't get tired! If you fall off in a comp, you'll be deducted!

    Good luck!

  2. you can just keep practicing your pop up on your board or a silhouette of your board on the sand. Its all about muscle memory if you do it enough times it will basically become second nature

but heres some tips arch your back when you're about to pop up push off the deck don't grab the rail to push off of(Ive worked as a summer surf camp instructor and we usually tell kids not to grab on the rail because having your fingers off the board in the water is creating drag and when they grab the rail they get hesitant to let go. which slow down their pop ups
