  1. definitely search the web and start with a longer board so you can get use to riding and after you get some experience move to the shorter, faster boards.

  2. Have you surfed before? If not, find some soft top boards you can rent. A couple 8 or 9 foot ones would be just fine. Find a beach that has small, gentle waves you can learn at. If you pick it up, great, keep going. Look into buying real boards because renting every time won't make sense for very long. But make sure you are willing to put time and effort into surfing because it's difficult at first.

If you wanna buy boards, I would still look into buying longboards, unless you are sure you want to be a shortboarder. Longboards are expensive, so look at surf shops to find some used ones. Make sure they are in decent condition because you don't want to invest in a board that has open dings, a lot of discoloration, or has been fixed too many times/ poorly. Again, just like renting, you aren't going to need a huge board since you are smaller than the average person. A 200lb 40-year old man might need a 10'0 board that is extra wide and thick, but being young still, and I'm sure pretty light, you can get away with a shorter and thinner longboard.

Go into surf shops and talk to the employees. They are there to help you out. Good luck.

  3. I'd love too thanks.
