I am going to Costa Rica in October. I will be staying in Samara, I have just started to surf and would like to know how the surfing is that time of year in Samara? Should I plan on going to Carillo also?

  1. Samara is not the greatest place to surf, because it faces south, and the way the coast is in that spot does not give good ridable waves... but as a beginner, you might be OK... and Nasara, which is better, is pretty close by.... just a tad to the North. I have never seen a map of surf breaks in Costa Rica that pointed out Samara. But I have been to Nasara, which is a few km to the North, and I had some fun rides. (The coast changes from south facing to west facing between Samara and Nasara though)

And Tamarindo is way to the North which is also a better surf destination.

Generally speaking, central and southern CR is better in October.

Some will argue with me... but I dont think Costa Rica is a surf destination for beginners anyway.
