  1. surf shops

  2. uhh south florida thats pretty tough it is blocked by most directions because of the carribean islands but there is osme swell if thier is a low pressure system or hurricane but yeah their is shops in the miami area if thats where your from

  3. Ok, first of all so you can be accepted as a surfer, it's a surf board, no offense.  Ok, and for a camp, go to this site:http://www.floridasurflessons.com/  It looks pretty good.  Good luck learning how to surf.

  4. Those things called the Bahamas mess up the swell in most of south Florida. You can go off the jetty at Dodge Island when the cruise ships leave on Saturdays, and get a really cool ride in a huge wake. Lots of guys do it.

That's not to say that there aren't some really great spots to surf on the Atlantic coast of Florida, but you have to head north. Once you get up to Jupiter or Juno, you have some pretty good spots, when they are on. But, any further south in Florida, if the waves aren't being chased by a storm with a name, they just aren't there.

Lessons are usually the best way to start, unless you are an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook you up with lessons, and even rent you a board to learn on. Just work on your basics, and after you feel good, think about buying a board, but don't rush into anything.

  5. it depends on where you live. if you want a cheap board, and live in a surf community, go garage sailing. never pay over $100 for a garage sale board. check it over, and make sure there are no horrific damages or parts that feel squishy. most importantly, do not buy a shortboard for a first board, you'll NEVER learn. look for a funshape.

as for lessons, my brothers and i learnt ourselves, rather quickly. theres not much to it, just develop balance and you'll be off and tearing up some faces in no time (about 1 to 4 years). if you arent confident, look for friends to take you surfing. if you dont have any who do, go to your surf shop and ask them for a teacher reference.

try to surf on small- moderate days. paddling out in dinosaur waves (if you can) will just make you feel like c**p or endanger your safety if you're a newbie.

and dont feel bad when people call you a kook. embrace it. if you keep at it, one day you'll be an old man making fun of beginners.

  6. Any local surf shop would give a reasonable $30- 60, including the surfboard, and wetsuit (depending on the weather).
