I am going to Hawaii in like, 5 weeks, so i wanna build up my balance and stuff for surfing! What are some ways that I can practice on dry land? Or in the pool, but all I have is an inner tube for the pool.

  1. For about 200 dollars you can buy an indo board. It works on balance and coordination. heres a link

    http://www.indoboard.com/application/car...

  2. •You could always do laps to strengthen your arms.

•You could also do that thing where you take the surf board, lie it on the ground, and pretend to paddle on it, digging up sand

•I also like to use one of those "Indo boards". Basically, you try to balance on the board. It helps me balance on a surfboard really well.

  3. You can take a look at my book online (surfcoachbook.com) or the surf library (surflibrary.org) for a number of ideas.  There are suggestions for both balance building and for exercises to build paddling strength.

  4. In regards to "and stuff" you can practice standing up on a board by lying down on your belly with your hands out by your chest. Do a push up and  then snap and twist your hips and feet up to a crouching position. Once up, keep your center of gravity low by keeping you hips low to the floor. Don't stand straight up. If you skate or snowboard you should know which foot to put forward. This is the hardest part of learning to surf. Do this in one fluid motion, not a bunch of jerky steps. When you get to Hawaii and rent a board, get a pretty thick and longer board not a little short board. Better yet rent a big soft board, they are the best beginner board. Good luck!

  5. Lay on your floor like you are laying on a board, then pop up into position like you are standing on a surf board (over and over), this will get your speed and balance of getting up better so you don't lose your balance when you are in the water.
