  1. well falling of your board is sign a lame-ness! im sorry to break it to you but surfing just is a cut throat sport! yours sincerly Dr. john a.k.a. "the healer"!

  2. Try practicing by playing the playstation game 'Surf's Up'. If you like surfing watch the animated movie 'Surf's Up'. It's the best animated movie I've ever seen! hope u find my info good and the best answer :D

  3. what size board are you using? if the board is too narrow, it won't be stable like you want when just becoming familiar with your pop up motion. if you can, try to avoid becoming too used to getting on your knees first. it's okay the first few times but you really want to get used to getting to your feet in one fluid step. practice on the sand to know where to place your feet. and keep your head up. if you look down you'll fall down.

  4. standing is something you have been doing all your life. Lie on your chest, your head up, looking ahead. Put your hands on the board beside your shoulders palms down like you were going to do a push up. Push your upper body up while at the same time you sweep your feet under you, laying them on the stringer, the line down the middle of the board, so your weight is centered along the stringer.

When you come up, remember to keep low. If you stand erect you will fall. Assume a position of a sumo wrestler. Press your feet shoulder width apart and "grip the board in your feet", opposite of the way you would press your thighs together on a horse. Have your hands a bit higher than your waist and just in view of your vision. Always look up! If you look at your feet, you will fall down. I promise!

  5. yeah if your youthful pop up in one motion, it takes many attempts but if your consistent in going surfing, it(balance/popup) gets easier day by day

  6. You don't want to get up on your knees. You want to in one quick movement slide your feet underneath you and come to a squatting position and remember to bend the knees and not the back.

Practice on the beach several times until it feels natural. You are going to fall many times before you just start standing consistently. Just takes practice and patience.

  7. Go to a surf shop, (a real surf shop, not a bathing suit store), and hook up with somebody for some lessons. You can't learn to surf over the internet, you have to get wet.

  8. Skip the step when your on your knees. That's harder than standing up, you will have no control. When you see a wave (start small) paddle hard, grab the rails (sides) of the board and pull yourself to your feet. From there you can take your time standing up. Try a lesson, they really help you learn and if you're opposed to that practice practice practice. =]

  9. get a balance board, the board with the tube thing, i've been surfing for years and it helps. Not sure how much they cost. hope i kood help

  10. Depends on how you feel natural doing it.

When i started i used to practice at home on the lawn with my board. Up to you how much practice you put in.

Someone mentioned do not use the knees, well that is rubbish. It is how you feel better dong it. Not everyone is as flexible, strong and as quick to do the complete launch to the upright position in one move.

Many people teach and use the knee method.

Once you get the technique right you can then concentrate on balance.

  11. Wish I could help you out but I am scared of the ocean! :-) Good Luck!
