Question:

Surfing wetsuits - what does 3/2mm mean?

I was told I need a 2mm wetsuit but I only see them every listed as 3/2mm. Is there a connection here? If not, what size should I get for cold weather surfing (santa cruz, ca) Thanks!

  1. You want a 4/3 minimum for the cold waters of Santa Cruz.  It depends on your tolerance for cold.  If you're like me, I'd probably get a 5/4 but I'd rather be a little on the warmer side.  Just a reminder, the thicker the suit, the harder it is to move.  Don't forget booties!

  2. A 3/2 mm is in essence the same as a 2mm. I actually have never seen just a 2mm. Get the 3/2.  All it means is in sensitive areas such as the armpits, stomach, down there, and neck it is about 3mm thick instead of 2. If you are in really cold water try a 3/4 FULL (With long arms and legs) wetsuit.

By the way: Tips for trying on a wetsuit.

    1. Bring a speedo because that's the closest thing to being naked while changing in and out.

    2. Buy a wetsuit that feels SNUG, it will loosen in water

    3. Bring 2 plastic bags, put them on your feet and it will help the wetsuit slip on faster (think about it, it gets hot in those things outside of water you want to get in and out as fast as possible

Good luck, see you on the water.

  3. what they are saying on a 3/2 wetsuit compared to a 2mm wetsuit is that your upper body or torso has a 3mm thickness and your arms legs or limbs have a 2mm thickness......

if santa cruz is where I think in n. cal you may want to get it a little thicker but ask around first................
