Surgery for a newborn?

My 3 week old daughter was just diagnosed with a Urachal cyst and her Urologist says she needs surgery to remove it. Has anyone else had a newborn with the same condition? Did you have the surgery done? How did it turn out? I am very nervous about the whole thing since my first daughter passed away at the same hospital this baby will have to go to for her surgery.

  1. I have not been in that situation, but my first son had a hernia surgery at 8 months. He was fine, but it was a scary experience. My second son spent 2 weeks in the NICU, having all kinds of scary things done, because they didnt know what was wrong with him. He actually has situs inversus. All of his organs are on the opposite side. He's doing great. I think in these situations, you just have to put your hope in the Lord. Maybe get a second opinion from another hospital. Im so sorry about your first daughter.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about that. I don't know of anyone else with that same condition, I do know of a baby who underwent a lot of surgery however.

My cousin was born three months premature and weighed onl 1 lb 3 oz. He had a lot of surgery, and the doctors were positive he wouldn't survive (I think they may have even told the mother that he didn't have a real chance, which was about the coldest thing they could have done in my opinion).

In any case, he was fine. He's eleven years old now, and although he's emotionally a lot younger than othe releven year olds, he's quite brilliant.

I guess that my point is, it's normal to worry, but your baby should be fine. Be strong, do research, and I hope everything goes well for you and your daughter. You're in my thoughts.
