Surgery to Boston Bruins’ Tim Thomas has allowed him to get better and back in form
Almost a year ago, it was the time when Boston Bruins’ goalkeeper was on bed after he underwent a surgery to repair his torn labrum in the left hip.
Seven days after the surgery, he was on the bench playing as the backup goalkeeper who witnessed Flyers coming back from a 3-0 deficit to win the series and knocking out Bruins from the postseason. Ever since the surgery took place, many experts say that
it was the turning point of his career.
"I suppose it is amazing to think where I was a year ago, but I really haven't taken too much time to really focus on how different it is this year", Thomas said. "I'm still too busy putting all my focus and energy into trying to accomplish more”.
This Saturday, when Bruins kick of its Finals’ series against Lightning, Thomas will be celebrating his personal best, 12th inclusion in the team during the playoffs.
He maintains a record of eight wins and three losses, 2.03 goals against average and 0.937 saves percentage. These statistics are pretty good and even though he hasn’t done much but still he has been among one of the dominating goalkeepers in the National
Hockey League.
Bruins was able to score a total of seven goals out of the 149 shots it fired on goal in the 4-0 clean sweeping series performance it put up against Philadelphia Flyers.
Now it gets bigger, the Conference Finals against Tampa Bay Lightning.
Thomas came up with a decent performance during the course of the regular season as well during which he maintained a record of 35-11-9. This has effectively put him into the final for the Vezina Trophy contention.
The Vezina Trophy is given to the best goalkeeper in the National Hockey League. Thomas has maintained a 0.938 saves percentage and goals against average of 2.00 which is quite impressive.
"You can make goals, but you never know if you'll be able to accomplish them", Thomas said. "I was probably the only one thinking that it was something that was at least a possibility".
Thomas said that last year while sitting out and watching Tuukka Rask making 13 starts motivated him a great deal and also gave him the opportunity to learn.
He is confident that this time out he would do well and in turn Bruins can go all the way to get its hands on the Stanley Cup after a long time. The last time this happened was in 1972.
