Surgical Tech with tattoo

I am going to school next fall to become a surgical tech. I want to get a small star tattooed on the inside of my wrist. It will probably no bigger than a quarter. Is this going to be acceptable for a surg tech? will it hurt the chances of me getting a job?

  1. If you want to get a tattoo, get it in a place that won't show when wearing normal clothes.  Any prejudice from a tattoo could be very subtle and hard to detect to say nothing of proving.  In all honesty the person you're talking to may not even be aware s/he is being influences by a tattoo.  It could indeed hurt your chances.  Even the military these days are banning tattoos that show.

  2. yeah, i think it will.

when most people see somone with tattoos they automatically view them a certain way it seems like. tattoos seem to make people look like they are not as professional as people without even though it is false stereotyping. especially for someone in the medical field, tattoos aren't a good idea. it could potentially hurt your chances of getting a job sadly to say. if you must get a tattoo, get it in a place that you could easily conceal with clothes like on your thigh or on your back.

  3. i work in a hospital. i got a cross tatted on my left wrist. hide it when you have an interview and after you get hired for a little bit. after a while no one will care.

  4. You seem reluctant.  Don't do it until you are absolutely sure.

  5. It may as surgical tech positions are pretty hard to come by as it is :)  That can only work against the person especially on such a rather conspicuous area as the wrist.

If looking at schools, please forgo those private $$ career schools and instead opt for the county vo-tech school or community college, perhaps non-credit course as long as it's accredited within the industry.
