Surging Seattle Seahawks face resilient Buffalo Bills – NFL Week 15 preview
The blistering Seattle Seahawks aim to strengthen their playoff hopes as they face Buffalo Bills in Week 15 game on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario.
Seahawks are currently standing fifth in the National Football Conference (NFC) playoff standings. The team currently has an 8-5 record along with division rivals Chicago Bears and New York Giants.
Meanwhile, Bills are almost certain to finish the season without qualifying for the playoffs as the team currently stands at 11th position in American Football Conference (AFC) after putting up a 5-8 record.
Seahawks are in a revival mode as the team has won four of its last six games. Bills, on the other hand, have a 2-4 record in their last six games.
The game will also mark the encounter of two of the best running backs in the league. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is currently ranked second best in the league with 1,266 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
Lynch also played an astounding role in the Seahawks’ 58-0 swipe against Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. The running back finished that game with 11 carries for 128 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Bills running game still looks impressive despite losing running back Fred Jackson for the season this week.
Running back C.J. Spiller looks set to take the centre stage. The player has put up 944 rushing yards on 144 carries this season.
Seahawks broke the franchise record last week for number of points scored in a game. Talking about the team’s performance last week, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said:
"This was really a different game. This is so much different than everything we've played. It's a nice reward. Sometimes you get a chance to win big like that and we haven't had many since we've been here."
Lynch is also backed up by good performances from rookie quarterback Russell Wilson. Also, the defensive team has been consistent throughout the season.
Despite having very little or no chance of ending their 12-year postseason drought, Bills head coach Chan Gailey is still hopeful that his team can achieve this feat.
Spiller has been in the headlines for his harsh remarks about getting low number of snaps in recent weeks. However, things look to have settled down between him and Gailey. Spiller said, according to the team’s website:
"My style is I'll never go up there and beg, beg, beg for the ball. I understand we've got a lot of playmakers out there. Everybody wants to have the ball in their hands and everybody wants to make that play. I'm not different, but I'm not going to sit around
and mope week in and week out."
