Im 25wks pregnant &me and My fiance have a 15mnth old daughter together. The baby in my stomach IS HIS.

My surname is Taylor.

His is Bell.

Miah[our daughter]'s is Taylor-Bell.

We are getting married before the next little one arrives, and im curious.

Should we...

1. Change Miah's surname to Just Bell. Ill change over when im married like planned and our new baby will be Bell.

Everyone will be just Bell.

2. When i get married ill change to Taylor-Bell &our new baby will be Taylor-Bell also, he can change if he wishes.

So everyone, will be Taylor-Bell [daddy may not be included]

I dont have any sentimental reasons to want Taylor included, but what do you think is a better idea?

We originally made Miah's surname hyphoned incase we broke up, we didnt want her to have a different name to her mommy.

Thankyou x

  1. this question is weird. why do you need to emphasis that the baby is his. if you had just said casually it was people have no reason to not believe you and so your emphasis on a point not needed to be debated makes me wonder weather that is actually true. the innocent don't feel the need to defend themselves in such a manner.

secondly your getting married. when you get married the right thing to do is to take your husbands last name. that also means your daughter or any number of kids also have your husbands last name

  2. I like the name Taylor-Bell, think it sounds really nice!  My son has my surname only, as i was apart from his father and was not sure he would stick around (luckily he did and they have a great relationship now).  Now my partner and i are expecting a baby and this one will have a hyphonated surname so that he/she has part of the same surname as all family members.  When my partner and i get married we will both adopt the hyphonated surname so that we all have a common name (with the exception of my son as his father would not allow me to change the name to another mans name).  I would convince your partner to hyphonate and stick with that name.

  3. To save the confusion for the children I would have all with the one surname, as much as I like Taylor- Bell. I think in years to come, it would mean that there wouldn't be so much explaining to do, especially for Miah.

Congratulations on the forthcoming wedding and the yet to be born little one.

  4. When I got married I didn't hyphenate my maiden name, but I didn't get rid of it either... It's like a second last name, and my son has my maiden name and my husbands last name. There was no way I was completely giving up my last name...so my son will have 2 last names. Some people might think it's complicated, but I think it'll give him something else to be proud of...so that he knows about mommy & daddy's side. My husband didn't want to take on both last names, and so he didn't....and thats fine. But all my kids and me will have both last names.

  5. I think you should go with the name Bell. That way your kids won't wonder why they have different last names. It' more traditional to take the husbands and fathers name.

  6. I think you should have whatever name YOU want. I personally think Taylor-Bell is a gorgeous surname but you're the one who has to live with it.

  7. I think the four of you should go by Bell. It's really nice that way. Everyone can see your a real family and you won't get asked questions. Also when your children start school it may be difficult coz you have two kids with different surnames and you will have to prove and carry paper work on you. My sister has two kids with different surnames and she is always explaining this to the orthorities. It's nicer to have everyone with the same surname and easier when it comes to paper work.

  8. I think Miah Taylor-Bell is great. So, no, don't change it, it's great that both your kids will have your surname along with their fathers.

I would have loved to do it myself, but my surname wouldn't have gone good at all with my hubbys surname. :(

    But i do like Taylor-Bell.
