  1. Ok, we have a good head scratcher here.  Off the top, I agree that the name SOUNDS German. When I used ancestry to check.. I find a number of persons in the US with this last name.. but with FIRST names that definitely are Indian sounding. I would then figure that yes, you probably mean caste, and I can't help on that, at all.

    Is there a chance these persons descend from someone German who went to India, married there and left family? That's the best I can come up with.


  2. Mitbander would appear to be a German name. When you refer to cast, are you meaning caste? As in the East Indian caste system?
