County club Surrey and the Metropolitan police have confirmed that 23-year-old batsman Tom Maynard died early this morning after being hit by a train on the London Underground.
The right-hander’s body, reportedly hit by a district line train, was discovered on the rails of the Wimbledon Park tube station. Police confirmed that Maynard’s car had been pulled over by officers at 4.15am in the morning for rash driving. The player disappeared
on foot, and was later found dead near the train tracks at 5.10am.
The young batsman has played a total of 48 First-class matches and 63 List A games. He was considered one of Surrey’s brightest talents, and the club issued a statement lamenting the loss.
