Surrey names Richard Thompson as new chairman
Surrey county cricket club has named Richard Thompson as chairman ahead of the close season and 2011 domestic season.
Thompson comes into replace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Stewart-c53235 who has retired from the position after being in charge of the county for just under eight years. It is a positive appointment that should help take the club forward.
"I am honoured to be named chairman. David Stewart will be a tough act to follow and he is owed a great deal of thanks. Despite a period without trophies, I am confident that with the players coming through,
the foundations are in place for a period of success," said Thompson.

championship.

At 43-years-old Thompson is the youngest chairman in England and the youngest person to take this role in Surrey's history. This creates the impression Thompson will be viewed as a breath of fresh air.
Thompson is a Surrey man and he will have new and exciting ideas for the club. This means there will be no settling in period as Thompson is already experienced and passionate about the club.
Thompson has a very good relationship with Stewart who was honorary treasurer of the club before he was chairman. This relationship should continue and means Thompson will have help if Surrey encounters
any financial problems.
