Surrey thrash Middlesex – Friends Life T20 – Cricket News Update
Surrey defeated Middlesex by a mere margin of nine runs in the final of the Friend Life T20 South Group match, at Lord’s, London, on July 7, 2011.
Surrey had won the toss and decided to bat first. They started their innings with their openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Davies-c2542. Surrey got off to a great start as the openers provided them a 92-run first-wicket partnership. Both openers completed their half centuries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Scored 52 while Davies scored 51 runs before getting out.
After the openers, the remaining batsmen could not capitalize on the start provided to them by their openers. Amongst the remaining batsmen, Tom Maynard was the third top scorer with 27 runs under his belt and remained unbeaten. Surrey could only manage
to score 182 runs in the allotted ration of twenty overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 again lost another wicket when CJL Rogers
was clean bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dirk-Peter-Nannes-c54221.
After three early wickets, Surrey’s skipper, NJ Dexter, started playing sensibly, showing some patience and did not allow bowlers to dominate him. Similarly he was tremendously supported the JWM Dalrymple, who also played sensible, yet aggressive cricket.
The duo kept on playing in the same mood and worked the ball expertly into the gaps, sending the loose balls to the boundary. The pair did not take pressure and played some excellent cricket over all. However, they were really unfortunate because both were
deprived of their half-centuries.
The skipper went back to the pavilion after scoring 49 runs. He was stumped off the bowling of Schofield. He smashed six boundaries and a huge six.
Similarly, Dalrymple fell two runs short of his fifty. He was caught by GJ Batty off the bowling of Nannes. He also whacked six boundaries and a hit out of the park.
Despite a hard fought innings by these two batsmen, Middlesex fell nine runs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of victory due to the weak lower order, which failed to cope with the pressure and crumbled against the Surrey bowling attack.
