Surrey v Kent: County Championship Division Two – Day 1 Recap
Surrey dominated Day 1 of the County Division Two match against Kent, as they posted 387 in their first innings, played at their home ground at Kennington Oval, on July 10, 2011.
The day ended with Kent posting 26 on the board for the loss of two wickets.

The day started with Surrey Captain, Hamilton http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brown-c48671, winning the toss and electing to bat first. However, the innings started poorly with Surrey opener, Jason Roy, dismissed in the first over of the match by Pakistani pacer, Wahab Riaz.
After hitting Wahab for a four, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944. The next batsman to come in was the experienced, Mark Ramprakash. Although he looked assured in his 26 minutes stay at the crease, he was the second wicket to fall when he

This brought http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zander-de-Bruyn-c98565 at the crease. He, along with skipper Hamilton-Brown, built a solid third-wicket stand to give their side a good platform to carry on.
When the partnership reached 60, Hamilton’s stumps were shattered by Ashley Shaw. His innings of 34 included 5 glorious boundaries.
With one end occupied, wickets fell from the other end with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Davies-c2542 (17), Tom Maynard (19) and Zafar Ansari (4), not able to support De Bruyn.

Batty shared a vital stand of 135 runs for the seventh-wicket with De Bruyn. However both fell in quick succession with Batty giving a caught-and-bowled chance to Van Jaarsveld. He made 65, which included 7 boundaries and a six.

This meant that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 was left with a few anxious overs to negotiate in their first innings. However, opener Joe Denly fell for 13, leaving Kent to send night watchman, Robbie Joseph to play out the last overs.
However, the decision back fired as Stuart Meaker trapped him leg before for 1.
