Surrey v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851
Kent efficiently covered up an insipid batting performance with an intense bowling attack led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Mahmood-c1116, with Mark Davies and Adam Riley playing supporting roles, and went on to claim a comprehensive 48-run victory over Surrey in the ongoing Friends
Life t20, played at the Kennington Oval in London on July 5.
The loss saw Surrey continue their dismal run with their worst defeat yet. Despite respectable bowling performances by Chris Tremlett (4-0-23-2), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DP-Nannes-c1396 (3-0-23-2), and Zafar Ansari (3-0-26-2), which saw them restricting Kent to 136, Surrey found themselves
all out for 88 – their lowest all-out T20 total yet.
The match started off after Surrey won the toss and stand-in skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366, who has taken a break after the sudden death of teammate Tom Maynard last month) elected to field first.
Kent opened their innings with Sam Northeast (12) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 off Matthew Spriegel.
Billings followed in the 6th over, dismissed by Tremlett, but skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368 (6) and Azhar Mahmood (7),
but the two were unable to have much of an impact, and were both dismissed by the 11th over, by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Kartik-c78034 and Ansari, respectively.
Ansari finally managed to eliminate the growing threat of Key in the 13th over, leaving Kent at a shaky 82 for 5. However, a late burst by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexander-James-Blake-c43208 (Player of the Match), who scored a quick-fire 35 off 26 and struck up a 40-run partnership with
wicketkeeper batsman Geraint http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Ball-c41883 on 6), Kent managed to work their way up to a respectable 136.
Surrey’s innings, however, featured no such redeeming performances, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burns-c48842 (3), while the later took care of Steven Davies (8) and Jason
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 (0).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zander-de-Bruyn-c98565 (18) and Ansari (who top scored for his side with 25) established Surrey’s highest partnership – a 5th-wicket 45-run stand which got them up to 63 by the 12th over. However, the remainder of the batting order was unable
to follow through, and Kartik (0),Spriegel (1), Batty (10), and Tremlett (5) all gave their wickets away without much of a fight, with Surrey finding themselves all out by the 18th over.
Mahmood finished with figures of 3 for 12, with Mark Davies (4-0-18-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Riley-c85432 (4-0-15-2) proving equally instrumental for Kent’s success. Stevens and Ball also chipped in with one wicket each to restrict the opposition to a final total of 88 – 48 runs
short of the target.
