http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807: Clydesdale Bank 40 – Leicestershire’s Innings Recap
Surrey posted a massive total of 292 against Leicestershire in a match of the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the Grace road, Leicester in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Leicestershire needed some solid performances from their batsmen in order to chase the target down. They were given a good start by opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739, who top scored the innings with 51 runs.
However, the rest of the batsmen failed to make an impression and gave wickets away at regular intervals. As a result, the hosts were all out for 151 runs in 25.5 overs, losing the match by a huge margin of 141 runs.
There was not much wrong with the pitch, as it played consistently throughout the match. It was a touch slower in the second half of the game, but still had plenty to offer for the batsmen.
Leicestershire’s openers Cobb and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacques-Du-Toit-c65245 guided their team into a very good position with an opening stand of 75 runs. They played aggressive cricket and laid a solid platform for the batsmen to follow.
Du Toit was the first man to be dismissed in the innings. He was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings, getting dismissed for 20 runs off 25 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries.
Just one run later, Cobb was also sent back to the pavilion after adding 51 runs to the total off 32 deliveries. He looked in very good form and scored most of his runs in boundaries, clobbering seven fours and two towering sixes.
However, the innings was stabilised by middle-order players Will Jefferson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Taylor-c66127. The pair put together 50 runs for the third wicket partnership, but failed to make a big impression.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 got out after collecting 21 runs from 19 balls with the help of a couple of boundaries. He was followed by Jefferson, who looked impressive for his 26 off 28. He struck one four and a couple of massive sixes.
The lower-order of Leicestershire struggled to cope up with the pressure of scoring runs at a quick rate, as wickets started to tumble in the innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Boyce-c1924 was dismissed after scoring 5 runs in his short stay at the wicket.
Next to go was wicketkeeper batsman Paul Dixey, who added just 1 run to the total. He was followed by Wayne White, who managed 12 runs in his short outing.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Hoggard-c1926 were the last two wickets to fall in the innings, as Leicestershire were all out for 151.
Surrey’s Jade Dernbach and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-John-Schofield-c50881 did not allow the opposition’s batsmen to settle down. Both bowlers did an excellent job, picking up four wickets each in the match.
