After four days of intense domestic cricket, the game between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 and Somerset came to a disappointed end with no team coming out victorious in the match that was played at Kennington Oval, London.
On Saturday, May 19, the fourth day of play began with Somerset resuming their second innings from a score of 154 with seven wickets down.
VD Philander and C Overton came out from the batting side in a bid to amass a denting total on the board, however, not much was expected from the lower-order batsmen, as they lacked the skills that were required to subdue the raging Surrey bowling attack.
Nonetheless, the two batsmen steadfast and steered the side to 171 runs before the partnership finally met its eventual death on the demise of Philander, who lost his wicket to Meaker after scoring just five runs off 29 deliveries.
Then with 180 runs on the board, Overton also hit the showers, perishing after smacking an innings of 12 runs. The batsman had his stumps uprooted by a superb delivery bowled by Meaker.
Finally the last wicket was also taken by Meaker as he completed a haul of eight wickets in 21 overs. It was due to Meaker’s outstanding bowling that limited the batting side on a tally of 180 in their second innings.
Needing a modest total of 305 runs to win the match, Surrey had an unimpressive start to their innings as they lost their first wicket with only seven runs on the board with opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Davies-c2542, having his stumps shattered by Philander after scoring only four runs.
Opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 then crafted an intimidating partnership with number-three batsman, JA Rudolph, as the duo sailed their side to a total of 96 runs before Roy became the second wicket from his side to fall after scoring 41 runs.
Meanwhile, Rudolph was dismissed after scoring a well tamed innings of 45 runs, but later it was the brilliant innings of 70 runs by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Hartman-Joseph-c85857 Hamilton-Brown that stole the show.
However, time ran out for Surrey as the team had posted 239 runs for the loss of seven wickets and needed more time to reach the target, consequently, causing the game to end on a draw.
