Sussex after winning the toss, opted to field first, but got bulldozed for 106 runs in 16.2 overs before rain came pouring down to end the first innings. Having posted a decent total on the board, Surrey were sitting pretty much in a comfortable position, while Sussex had their work cut out for them as according to the revised total they now had to chase 109 runs in 15 overs.
Beginning their run chase, Sussex openers CD Nash and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 bolstered a stand of 22 runs before the first wicket fell when Nash in the third over, was caught behind off the bowling of Meaker, after scoring an innings of 22 runs off 12 deliveries.
Wright then crafted an amazing partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984, as the duo launched a steady but belligerent batting offensive, increasing the run rate gradually.
However, with 76 runs on the tally, Prior lost his wicket to Batty, after bolting an innings of 25 runs off 10 deliveries.
With the wicketkeeper/batsman back in the pavilion, it was time for MW Goodwin to come in the middle and face the music, but the player kept his nerve and provided Wright with commendable support, as the batsmen retained pressure on the fielding side.
Surrey, by this time were growing impatient and desperately seeking another wicket to halt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852’s run chase.
After placing 90 runs on the board, Sussex lost the services of Wright, who was caught and bowled by Batty, after playing a fiery knock of 32 runs off 21 deliveries.
