Surrey v Warwickshire - County Championship Division One - Day 4 – Live Score and Update
Surrey 223 & 245 v Warwickshire 247 & 222/5 (70.0 ov) - Warwickshire won by 5 wickets
On Saturday, Warwickshire beat Surrey by five wickets in their County Championship Division One four-day match played at Kennington Oval, London.
Warwickshire, who had already amassed a total of 181 runs out of the target of 222 runs to win, resumed their innings with TR Ambrose on 74 and R Clarke on 18, as the side saw victory just around the corner.
Nonetheless, they had lost five wickets which meant that they did not have many batsmen to come and there was a fancy chance for Surrey to bowl-out the opposition well behind the required target.
However, the fourth day was for the batsmen to shine as the bowlers were completely left flabbergasted when denied a single wicket on the final day.
Both batsmen clobbered the bowlers with zeal and confidence as they were not ready to settle for anything less than a win or a draw.
While TR Ambrose gathered 89 runs, his batting partner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 played an unbeaten innings of 40 runs to help the side amass 222 runs to win the game in an astounding fashion.
From http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851, GJ Batty was the best bowler in the second innings as he finished with four wickets to his name, however, he required a good support from the rest of the bowlers in order to restrict the batting side from reaching the target.
With this victory http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 have gained 100 points in the tournament and are now at the top spot on the points table. While, Surrey are now at fifth place with 53 points after losing this crucial game.
Surry knew that they needed to bat well in their second innings in order to post a big total for Warwickshire to chase, but failed in their mission, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, consequently faltering on posting 245 runs. Had they posted something around 350 to 370, they would have had a better chance of winning the match.
