Surrogate mothers?

My bf and I want to get married and have a baby, but I cannot have anymore, due to health reasons, I am a diabetic, and his friends wife said she would be a surrogate mom for us, does anyone know the cost of this,if we already know who is going to carry the baby and what other costs are involved with it?

What are all costs involved? Is it a risk for any of us?

Do we still need a lawyer involved if we know the surrogate mom? We want to do it no matter what, but need to know about how much it may cost so we can save for it or get a loan to pay for it.

  1. Hi,

If you want to know more about surrogacy, then feel free to check out my forum there is a section dedicated to surrogacy and 2 articles on the involvement of host and straight surrogacy, the moderator for that section is a surrogate mum and helps people who are wanting to be a surrogate mother as well as intended parents like yourself.

I hope this gives you an insight into surrogacy and good luck x

  2. Usually the Surrogate will tell you how much they are expecting in compensation. Normal rates are between $5,000 and $10,000. You would need to pay all the mother's expenses for health care, maternity wear, special birthing classes, even sometimes food if you want her to adhere to a strict diet.

It would be best to get a lawyer involved because sometimes it's hard to talk about money with people you actually know. They can be the mediator. Plus they could help you set up what happens after the birth.

  3. Absolutely, you need a lawyer. Get one that specializes in reproductive law. Some states now outright ban surrogacy unless it is a relative who is carrying the baby.  Other states, such as Texas, support surrogacy only if the egg used is not that of the surrogate's.  My state says it doesn't matter whose egg it is.  The woman who gives birth is the mother and if she changes her mind, it remains her baby and the father will get to pay child support and get visitation.  Also, realize that some states have made it illegal for you to give the surrogate any money.  All money goes directly to the medical provider.

  4. I am in the research process and i think that it is great to have a surrogate mother. if you go through an agency it is a lot more and it is still well above 10,000 even when you do not pay the surrogate mother, get a lawyer it protects everyone and some states have certain laws about it.

  5. I think before you and your BF have a baby this way you should get married and get your finances in order, then look into expenses for a  surrogate.
