Surround Sound Help! Xbox 360, T.V, DVD?

I recently just built a home theater system in our basement. The problem is though that I cant get the surround sound to function on all of the devices. The Digital Theater System/Receiver (TH-D50) also has a DVD player on it and is made by JVC. I want all my devices to be hooked up to the system: Cable Box (Comcast), Xbox 360, and the DVD Player. The DVD player already works with the 5.1 Surround Sound.

So far, the Receiver is connected to the T.V with an HDMI Cable, along with all the Speakers connected to there spots on the receiver. The Xbox 360 is connected to the T.V with the HD RCA Cables (Red, Blue, Green and Red and White Audio Cables) the same HD RCA Cables connect the Cable Box to the T.V.

The only thing that has Surround Sound right now is the DVD Player, but I want the 360 and Cable Box to utilize the 5.1 sound also. How do I do this?

  1. Well, you just have to run the audio outs from the equipment to the audio ins on the surround sound. The digital connections are preferable. Seeing as how you "built a home theater," I assume you put alot of thought into the decisions, so what possessed you to buy any type of system that has the DVD player built into the receiver? You are greatly limited because at most, that unit has 3 or 4 inputs where for a little more money, a basic receiver has 9 or 10 minimum. Also, the distortion that the JVC creates and transfers into the sound is astronomical. Good luck.

  2. Well, on the surround sound I have it came with an extra wire, you hook the AV (Red,White,Yellow) cords into your surround sound and the other cords stay in your tv, and the extra wire is just a yellow video cable on both ends that will go into the surround and out to your TV.  It is kinda hard though b/c you have to have the 360 close enough to your tv and your surround.  Hope it makes since I know I made it really complicated.
