Surround Sound Problem?

The surround sound from my receiver/dvd player works fine, but when I try to plug in my Tv or Xbox 360 into the dvd player/receiver it doesn't do the surround sound. Is there something wrong with my audio inputs...? and is there a way to get that fixed?

And I know my Xbox is set to 5.1 surround sound in the setup and the game I'm playing has surround sound because I have played it on a different sourround sound system and it works fine. SO WHAT'S GOING ON?

  1. If your receiver is 5.1 or higher than you have to select the proper function on your receiver to broadcast the surround sounds set it to 5CH ST ''stereo'' because receivers might have a lot of settings like DTS,2 CH ST,etc.etc. if your receiver is not capable of transmitting the surround sounds than it's possible that you will have to upgrade your receiver but before that concur in the owners manual that it's not 5.1 surround sound.

  2. What connections are you using? What are you playing? Some things are not broadcasted in surround for instance TV channels some are and some are not plus you need to make sure your TV is outputting surround by checking the menu. As far as the xbox that should be working check the receivers mode.
