I just bought a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV with HDMI on top of this I replaced my old Sony Receiver with a new one the 510 model.

Let me explain.

The TV has three HDMI ports and MY reciever has 3 as well two inputs and one output. here is where my problem is. nothing works through my surround sound.

I have a upconverted dvd player for hdmi, the WII, A Sony Playstation 2 and of course normal cable and the tv there is two av ports on the back of the receiver for the games and of course the hdmi for the dvd. nothing will work through the reciever. The only that the tv will pick up is the dvd being hooked up with hdmi to the receiver and then the receiver to the tv through HDMI it uses the tv's speakers and not the surround sound. AUGHHGHGH I have taken this apart and put back together like 6 times and it is driving me nuts.

does anyone know what I can do to make my stuff work with surround sound ??? this sucks it is a brand new receiver and new dvd and new tv?

  1. That receiver does NOT up-convert all the inputs to the HDMI output.

If you connect the Wii/Cable box with SVideo to the receiver - you must run a SVideo cable from the receiver SVideo OUT to the TV.

Your DVD player SHOULD be using the receiver speakers. The document says it passes just the video along to the TV.

    Another way might be this:

    - Run HDMI and video from everything to the new TV

    - Run audio to the receiver.

  2. well it depends on the setup you made. the ps2 and wii has no hdmi output. so where did you connect the wii n ps2? if you connected it both to the reciver throught component or regular rca cable. you need to make sure that the input setup in your receiver is set properly. since your reciever is working as a "switch" for your consoles. i have a onkyo unit and had the same thing happend to me. i just had to make sure that each console was on the proper input.

  3. Here's my two cents.  I think HDMI connections work only with video signals and not audio.  The upconversion of your receiver is for standard video signals to upconvert into hi-def (although i've read in some articles that the upconversion is not that good).  So what I think you should do is connect all your HDMI devices to the input of your receiver then output the receiver into the TV but separately connect all the audio cables of your devices to your A/V receiver so you can use the surround sound.  Hope this helps
