Question:

Surround Sound for Blu Ray and 1080p TV?

I have a blu ray player, a 1080p tv, and I want surround sound. If I go with a 5.1 system, what are some things to look for? I am confused on why I need HDMI inputs and outputs on the receiver, is this important?

It seems like I could have: blu ray sound to receiver / blu ray video to TV via HDMI.

Am I missing something? Please Help!

  1. Yeah. . .  a grasp of the lanuguage helps when answering questions here, but I'll stop being rude. If you want to get into what called Dolby true hd (which is next gen 5.1 or true 7.1 surround) you will need a receiver capable of this format and the hdmi will already be on these receivers. It will cost you more but the sound is freaking amazing. The reason for needing the hdmi cable is that it is a pure uncorrupted digital transfer from your blu-ray to the receiver. Also it makes your hook up easier, you end up running and buying less cables in the long run.  If you want to stick with standard 5.1 surround you can absolutely do it the way you said and will still have exceptional sound. But the way Im seeing it, you already have all the top equipment so why not finish it right.

  2. yes it's important hdmi cable, you expend all ready ,much money on what you have, cuz' you want the cuality of a blue ray, ok.hdmi substitute a s-video cable ,its video and sound in 1 thats all but hd ,so worth the money when your family and your friends, say woooow.......and new pictures and games are expectacular...

  3. If you purchase the correct equipment, all you'll need to do is "daisy-chain" your Home Theater together with HDMI cables.  If you don't have the right Blu-ray Disc player or Receiver, then you won't be able to use an HDMI cable to get the "Uncompressed" (or "Lossless") audio out of your movies.  Click here for an explaination, followed by a list of all the compatible Receivers and Blu-ray Disc players: http://www.avtruths.com/uncompressed.htm...
