Question:

Surround sound connection question?

I bought a surround sound, and I hooked it up with an HDMI cable. But when I watch DVD's the video drops and all i'm getting is sound. This does not happen when I use the Green,Red and Blue cables.

I already changed my unit at the store, and I also changed the HDMI cable. This does not solve the problem. I already heard this is happening to Upconvert surround systems.

My question is is there a big difference between HDMI cables and GRB?

Also, is there a solution for my video dropping out?

  1. Component video (red/green/blue) is analog and HDMI is digital.

HDMI is what you want to use, if possible, but it's very touchy. Everything has to be up to standard, or you will loose your picture. Very common!

I'm going to assume you hooked it up correctly and you've selected the correct input since it did work for a while.

Since you've already eliminated defective system/cable issues, have you tried a better cable or a better system? These troubles seem to occur far more often with cheap equipment and cheap cables. So long as the store will allow you to return it, I would try a really good cable first, then a better sound system.

Also, if you don't recognize the name brand on your TV, it could be the culprit too. You won't have trouble with Mitsubishi, Sony, Philips, RCA, Sharp, Toshiba, Hitachi, Pioneer, LG, Samsung, Panasonic and a few I'm forgetting no doubt.

If all else fails, ask the store to send a tech out to solve it. If you bought the stuff on the Internet, you'll have to pay a service company to come help you.

Categorically speaking upconversion isn't a problem. I would expect it to be less reliable on cheaper gear though.

    Hope you get this licked!

  2. Hi,first thing is make sure your tv is set to receive h.d.are there any settings for it on a menu on your tv?

also make sure your dvd player is set to h.d output.
