So I have a 6.1 channel surround sound I'm really good with surround sounds and just have a simple question. I think I am over thinking and thats why I can't figure it out. So any ways lets get to the question. I have two rear speakers and and I was wondering how to make the rear speakers come in at certain parts of the movie. Like for example you are watching a scary movie and I want it to be more scary How do I make it so it will be loud when the music comes in and the scary noises like the pounding sounds and when they are talking make it quite again do I have to mess with the db which stand for deisbles do I have to set the back speakers to like 5dbs and the front speaker to 8 or 9 dbs and the subwoofer at 10dbs but Not generally speaking of the sub just speaking about more intense sounds at the scary parts of the movie and when they are talking make it normal or something like more quite. So How do I do that I already had someone tell me how to do it but just want some mre opions

  1. It probably depends upon how your system works.  For mine, i have to set how may feet away the rear speakers are, so I just put that they are further back than they really are, and it essentially makes them louder, so when the surroundsound kicks in, they really sound great.  But I never had to set the db's for mine.

  2. If I understand what you are saying correctly...

You have them on or you have them off... You can't tell 6.1 when to come in and out, it does it on it's own.... that's what your decoder does.

The surround speakers (rear) shouldn't really be playing the music for a movie... that is the front speakers job.

You shouldn't really have to crank up the DB's that much!

Maybe you have something hooked up wrong?

p.s. If you have 6.1 you should have three rear speakers.

6.1 is: centre, two fronts, three rear and a sub!

5.1 is: centre, two fronts, two rear and a sub

Your sub is the .1 (point one)

  3. BIG-G is on the right track, but there is a another  way. Go to any good audio or music and ask for a pink noise cd. Tell them you want to set our speakers they will know what you want. Basically the disk puts a signal to each individual channel and you can adjust the db's then or if your system doesn't allow that then just move the rears in or out as you need.  Cd costs about 12 bucks and you can adjust your system every time you locations. Hope this helps.

  4. if you have the proper reciever, adjust to delay fronts a little less or even with the back, if you can't set the processing then it's about placement. bring them in and actually turn down your sub you will hear rear effects better!!

  5. Hey bro I hate to tell you this but you just answered your own question with that. and thats good at least you know your stuff. But everything that you wrote up top is pretty much how you do it.   Good Job.
