My friend has a sony xpr2 hdtv and just bought a rx-v363 yamaha surround sound. He has put everything up wired together correctly but there is no sound. We did the guide and the walkthrough test. it tested all the speakers we could hear each one and it finished. he set it up for dvd gaming tv each scene but there is no sound out of the speakers. Please if you know anything what did we do wrong or still need to do. Hes been working on this all day and cant get a d**n thing to work

  1. I'm assuming you mean he engaged the pink noise generator on the receiver and every speaker worked. Since the generator is internally generated by the receiver it would only tell you that the speakers are hooked up correctly but not tell you anything about your inputs. I think you said that he has hooked up a gaming console to it. This is where you need to look. You need to hook up the gaming console directly to the receiver (you didn't mention which one) with a digital cable if the console has a digital OUTPUT. The cable would go into the  digital INPUT of the receiver. Set the receiver to the proper input and you should get sound. Feel free to message me further for clarification.

  2.       HDMI from PS3 to TV and optical cable from PS3 to receiver. You have to set bitstream on BD/DVD audio setting and HDMI out on PS3 menu.

  3. hmmm i m not sure about ur question but i think this is what u wanna know

HDMI from ps3 has to go into hDMi input Tv/receievr not into dvd .and then switch receiver to that hdmi device

optical form ur PS3 woudl go into Receiver/Tv (if it has optical in)

but if ur using HDMi u again dont need optical as optical doesnt have even bandwith to carry Hd sound
