Surround sound problems?

My speakers work great but the rear ones are quieter than the front ones. Are they supposed to be like that? Can I fix it?

  1. In addition to the above, you can use a Sound level meter, Maplins have them for about £20. If not use the Test signal and level them so they all sound the same level. The way I use the Test signal is to use the left channel as a template when its on max and set the rest of the speakers to equal (Really this is only good using a sound level meter as our ears are c**p to be honest!) Also check the wiring, black to black etc... C.

  2. Basically speaking, the answer is yes.

  3. If ou are listening to a movie in 5.1 most of you sound is going to come from your center channel most of the time. The only time the surround speakers (especially the rear)will fire is when something happens in the movie that should be behind you or to your right or left. In general the rear speakers will be softer than the front so it will sound more natural. Also the sub will only fire when a signal is sent to it too, like an explosion or gunfire or something. Sounds like your system is working fine. If you are in doubt hit the test button on your reciever and make sure they are all working. It will send a hissing sound (white noise) to them in sequence.
