ok will right now i have my ps3 using the old red yellow and white cords hooked up, with an old receiver that doesnt have hd cable connections, and im planning on buying a new hdtv, (samsung 24`` widescreen flat panel TFL-LCD HD monitor) with an hdmi or hd componit cable for my ps3, but i dont wanna buy it if i can work it with the surround sound with my ps3, and i think it might be a problem sence the receiver only has the old av componit cables (red white yellow) any ides on how i can make it workout?

  1. this is what i did with my receiver. i connected our ps3 to the tv and have an audio output going out from my tv and into my receiver. that way, any device hooked into your tv will work with the receiver.

i also have my wii, xbox, vcr, tape deck and direct tv cable box hooked into my tv. i listen to everything in surround sound. lol....

our receiver is a Pioneer VSX-501... my husband's brother had given it to him when he was in college. the rest of our speakers are old Bose speakers, but we've found that the sound is better than any other receiver we've tried to replace it with.

  2. Another option is to connect your PS3's audio using the optical cable to your receiver if it has one.
