I wonder how many people know that the first country bourne out of the Declaration of Independence was the Conferate States of America? and that the United States of America was conceptualized in 1787, 9 years after we declared independance. And that the idea of a strong central govt was so hated, that the Constution was ratified in secrecy after two years of writing.  Did you know that the US bill of rights was adapted from the Virginial Bill of Rights?
